Volkswagen union-busting

SumOfUs r1 ...

Volkswagen has put the brakes on US employee unionization, violating its own Global Framework Agreement for workers’ rights. Next week United Autoworkers members will take their fight to Volkswagen's AGM in Germany, and deliver this petition.

Tell the German carmaker to let its workers unionize.

A,

Volkswagen has put the brakes on employee unionization in the US -- despite a federal ruling ordering it to enter negotiations with the United Autoworkers (UAW).

Unionization would mean staff can directly address concerns about excessive production demands, inadequate health and safety measures and exhausting work schedules.

But Volkswagen isn't moving. We need to put pressure on the company to engage with its US employees now, before Republican-elected judges move to reverse previous rulings, and crush any hopes of a fair deal.

Tell Volkswagen to stop standing in the way of its workers rights to unionize!

By ignoring its legal responsibility to sit down and reach an agreement with its workers, Volkswagen -- whose image has already taken a battering due to the recent diesel emissions scandal -- violates its own Global Framework Agreement for workers’ rights.

We can't let this one pass, so early into an administration set on aiding union-busting. This sort of behaviour is becoming a trend across the country -- with workers and their families the ones who end up losing out.

United Autoworkers (UAW) Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel warned trade union leaders: “There is a cartel of capitalists in the South of the USA working in cohesion with right wing groups and anti-union lawyers. The tricks and tactics in the south of the US won’t remain there. They will be coming to you soon.”

Corporations have a long track record of trying to undermine the rights of their workers. But SumOfUs members have a track record too; of coming together for a fairer deal for workers everywhere. It's Annual General Meeting season for multinational corporations right now, providing all of us with the perfect opportunity to hold them accountable in front of their shareholders, investors and the media.

Volkswagen: stop union-busting and hear your worker’s concerns!

Thanks for all that you do,

Eoin, Kunal and the team at SumOfUs
