C-51 repeal on the horizon?

OpenMedia r1

Paov, this is amazing! The government has heard your voices loud and clear: it’s time to repeal Bill C-51.

This morning Public Safety Canada released its report1 on the National Security Consultation that thousands of you took part in — and the results were unquestionable: Canadians are demanding the full repeal of C-51, along with strong privacy protections, clear accountability and oversight.

We already knew that Canadians are pro-privacy – but now there’s no denying it.

With the report in hand,... our biggest fight is yet to come: Making them ACT on the results. We know the government is planning on introducing new legislation soon in response to C-51 and the national security consultation. And we need to be ready.

Will you donate today, to help us prepare for the fight of our lives?

Today’s huge success would NOT have been possible without you — our community. You absolutely FLOODED their consultation with pro-privacy messages.2 And then you went a step further, helping us to independently crowdsource the results of the consultation.

And it’s working! Thanks to you, we were able to publish initial results ahead of the government’s report, showing that over 88% of submissions mentioning C-51 called for its repeal.3

We were able to win because they knew the OpenMedia community was watching closely, holding them to account. It was your pressure that made them agree to release the results in the first place.4

This report confirms what we’ve been saying for over a year, and now the government is out of excuses for delays and inaction. We are closer than we’ve ever been to winning this and seeing C-51 repealed, Paov.

But we still need your help. This final push is going to take everything we’ve got — will you donate today to help us ensure we’re ready?

Thanks in advance,
Victoria with OpenMedia

P.S. OpenMedia has been fighting Bill C-51 from the start, and we’re committed to seeing this through. But it takes significant resources to stand ready against the government. Your contribution helps equip our team, providing us with the resources we need to have an impact and be ready to respond when the government acts. Will you donate now?
