Dear friends,
It’s been a year since the federal government passed its restrictive law on assisted dying, leaving seriously ill Canadians with no choice but to go back to court to win back a right they have already won.
Yesterday we announced that Robyn Moro has courageously stepped forward to fight on behalf of suffering Canadians for the right to compassion and choice at the end of life.
But, she knows that her suffering may become intolerable before the case is decided.
A cruel choice
Without the option of a physician-assisted death, Robyn plans to starve and dehydrate herself until death.This is a horrifying decision to have to make. In the words of the Supreme Court of Canada, "the choice is cruel."
While Robyn is prepared to take that step, this is not how she wants to end her life. “I know what my future holds and I don’t want to endure it,” Robyn says. “I want to be able to die peacefully, with my family by my side. Although we love each other dearly, my husband and family don’t want to see me suffer anymore. They support my choice. It’s the law that is forcing me to suffer.”
We are so thankful for the hundreds of people who are standing with the BCCLA, with Robyn and Julia, and with the thousands of Canadians who are being forced to make a cruel choice to end their intolerable suffering.
