Greenpeace is getting sued for 300 million dollars by Canada’s largest logging company, just for telling the truth: that Resolute Forest Products was clearing Boreal forests and destroying caribou habitat.

Next week, Greenpeace is heading to the largest book expo in North America to pressure Resolute's top clients -- Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster -- to stand up for free speech.

Will you add your name to our petition calling on the book publishers to stand with Greenpeace?

A,

Greenpeace and Stand.Earth (formerly Forest Ethics) are getting sued for $300 million by Canada’s largest logging company to make them shut up.

Resolute Forest Products has been clearing such large swathes of endangered Boreal forests that it might already be too late to save some caribou herds. When Greenpeace sounded the alarm on its aggressive logging practices, Resolute brought forward a massive lawsuit in an attempt to bully them into silence.

We can’t let our friends at Greenpeace be attacked for protecting our forests. So we are calling on Resolute’s biggest customers in the publishing business, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster, to stand up for free speech. Because if anyone knows about the importance of free speech, it should be them.

Now, we have just a few days to get as many signatures as we can before Book Expo America, one of the largest industry events of the year.

Will you stand with Greenpeace and ask North America’s largest book publishers to protect our forests?

This lawsuit is intended to bully groups like Greenpeace and Stand.Earth into silence. Resolute is so dead-set on silencing its critics that it’s filed a ridiculous lawsuit under American racketeering laws, designed to prosecute organized crime.

As SumOfUs members, we recognize Greenpeace’s incredible contribution to environmental protection and we know all too well that if a corporation can come after an organization like Greenpeace, it’s only a matter of time before it comes for us, too.

Time and time again, SumOfUs members have stood up for free speech. When corporations got Dr. Jonathan Lundgren fired from his job for trying to publish a link between bee die-offs and bee-killing pesticides, you donated tens of thousands of dollars to support his cause. Now it’s time to stand with Greenpeace and tell these bullies we won’t be backing down.

This lawsuit by Resolute is an attack on free speech and an attack on groups like ours. And if there’s one thing book publishers understand, it’s protecting our right to tell the truth. Please call on Resolute’s clients in the publishing industry to stop attacking one of the fundamental principles of publishing: the power and freedom to tell the truth.

Join us as we stand with Greenpeace, with our great forests, and for free speech. Tell the publishing industry to stand with us.

Thanks for all that you do,

Angus, Maggie, Emma, and the rest of the SumOfUs team
