Animals in zoos need your help r33
Dear PAOV,
Papanack Zoo, a roadside zoo in Ottawa, was just exposed for disturbing animal cruelty in new footage released by Animal Justice. The secretly-recorded video reveals:
- Zoo management admitting to beating a baby lion
- A raccoon, skunk and bobcat prodded and having their mouths pried open with a cord during a photoshoot for the reality TV show ‘Billy Goes North’
- Baby animals stolen from their mothers to be used as selfie props
- Animals confined in tiny cages exhibiting repetitive stereotypic behaviour—often a sign of severe mental distress
Ontario is the roadside zoo capital of Canada because it has the worst zoo laws in the country. Even hairstylists need a license to do business, yet anyone can open up a zoo without a license or government oversight. There's no way for the government to shut down a zoo, no matter how bad the conditions might be for the animals imprisoned against their wills. Please help us combat zoo cruelty: Demand that zoos be licensed and regulated!
TAKE ACTION The situation is desperate for animals confined in zoos. Without government oversight, animals are left out in the cold and there is no way to shut down an abusive zoo.
Please take action by asking the Ontario government to protect animals from zoo cruelty. Then, please share widely on social media using the hashtag #PapanackZooCruelty.
Together, we can expose zoo cruelty and fight for better animal protection laws.
Sincerely,Camille Labchuk
