He saved 66 chimps

Everyday, petitions are started on Change.org calling for the protection of animals. Millions of people have signed. But to truly power a campaign, it takes more than a signature. Change.org members help make inspiring and life-saving campaigns like this possible:
For more than 30 years, the New York Blood Center (NYBC) sponsored biomedical testing on chimpanzees. They had claimed they would provide lifetime care for the chimps after the testing, but they lied. After nine years, NYBC cut all funding to care for the chimps.

When 66 defenseless chimpanzees were no longer needed in the laboratory, they faced an uncertain future. After years of funding the care of the chimps, the NYBC pulled out and the chimps were left without food or clean drinking water on an island off the coast of Liberia.

Alarmed that NYBC was walking away from the chimps, the Humane Society of the United States and other good samaritans stepped in to help provide their care.

Brian, an animal advocate, was inspired to take action and hold the NYBC accountable. He started a Change.org petition, which helped rally the support of more than 200,000 people from around the world, including elected officials, celebrities and scientists.

And after two years of intense public pressure, the NYBC finally agreed to provide $6 million USD in funding for the care of the 66 chimpanzees that they had so carelessly left to die.
This is just one example of what’s possible when an animal lover like Brian is empowered to protect animals using Change.org’s free tools. Want to support other campaigns like this?
