It is estimated that 1 out of 5 people in Canada suffer from some type of mental illness yet there is limited formal education on the issue.
Rhonda from Newfoundland has battled with mental illness from a young age and she believes the alarming increase in mental illness calls for urgent action. She has started a petition urging school curriculum reform to include mental illness education.
“Mental illness has such a dirty stigma. Our young people have nowhere to turn,” says Rhonda. “Education on this topic in our school system is GREATLY needed. It could help save a life.”
