Hammerhead sharks are sentient, intelligent, social creatures who can feel fear, pain, and suffering. That’s why nearly 10,000 animal lovers are asking you to imagine this scenario:

You’re enjoying a swim in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. All of a sudden, you feel a sharp metal hook ram through your cheek. Shocked and disoriented, you try to swim away to your family, but the pain is overwhelming and paralyzing. As you fight back, you’re yanked a few inches out of the water. You realize you’re now staring down the barrel of a gun. A man laughs in your face at you writhe in agony. The man then shoots you twice in the chest — leaving you to die a slow, excruciating death.

That’s not a nightmare — that is the true story of what happened to a hammerhead shark who was killed by Alex Kompothecras, star of the new MTV reality show, Siesta Key.
