“That tiny space is all they will ever have for their entire lives. They aren’t treated like living animals, they’re treated like machines.”

The horrors of battery cages are well-documented — cages are so cramped that hens can't walk or spread their wings, with each hen given less floor space than the size of a notebook.

Yet reports estimate that around 90% of Canada’s egg production comes from battery cages. Egg Farmers of Canada — a national organization representing regulated egg farmers — has pledged to phase out battery cages, but this transition won’t be complete for almost two decades.

Ned from Victoria, BC, started a petition calling for a province-wide ban on battery cages. The new NDP government has previously expressed support for this issue, so now’s the time to show your new representatives that you don’t want to wait 19 years to see the end of battery cages.
