Solidarity Shipment

CoDev continues to work on a solidarity shipment to our Caribbean partners SNTAP and SNTECD (National Education, Science and Sports Workers Union) who are in need of computers, printers, car and motorcycle parts and other items, for strengthening their communications and organizations in general.

CoDev has worked with SNTECD since 1997 when the union’s Centre for Documentation, Resources, Professional Development and Leadership Training was created as a Havana-based resource centre for educators and union representatives. SNTECD is the only educator’s union in Cuba representing 500K workers of education, science and sports with the main objective of contributing to the professional development of its members, and improving the national public education system.

Recently Cuba experienced a massive hurricane, which left 10 people dead and over 1,500 schools damaged. The International Secretariat of SNTECD says “the damage is significant. It will be hard to recover, but Cuba does not stop, we will come out of this stronger...”

That same week, the US President announced that he would extend the economic blockade against Cuba for another year until September 14, 2018. The blockade has a great impact on everyday life for the Cuban people, given the restrictions for exporting and importing food and everyday items.

CoDev’s Canadian partners and supporters like yourselves should be proud of contributing to equip stewards, municipal and provincial leaders in Cuba to recover and rebuild their communities, in such adverse contexts.
