The Fight for 15 - What Next?

For those of us in unions, the Fight for $15 and Fairness means using all of the tools at our disposal to defend what we still have – at the bargaining table, on the shop floor, and in legislative halls – but then go beyond to forge new powerful community alliances to demand civil rights, immigrant justice, healthcare, quality education, food and shelter, and fair wages for all. Indeed, the pinnacle achievements of U.S. unions – think Social Security, minimum wages, safety laws – took place when labour acted not out of narrow self-interest, but as part of a broad social movement; not as a co-dependent of a political party, but as an independent force.

Moderated by Sean Smith.... Presentations by:

  • Deena Ladd from the Workers' Action Centre – talking about the Ontario movement – its successes and what lies ahead. We've won $15 or have we? Where to next? Bill 148 - what's in it for you?
  • Jonathan Rosenblum, union activist from Seattle and author of recently published Beyond $15, talks about the lessons to be learned from the struggle for $15 in the USA. Rosenblum's experience will be of particular interest to activists in the $15 and Fairness movement in Ontario.
