Toronto Airport Workers Sacrificed for Pearson Privatization

Toronto Airport Workers Sacrificed for Pearson Privatization r1 ...
Aircraft servicing staff at Toronto Pearson International spent Thanksgiving on a picket line. They were forced out on strike and are watching their work go to replacements brought in by a temp employment agency. They are asking each of us to take a few seconds and send a solidarity e-mail.

Without warning, the Canadian government said they want to privatize our largest airports. Selfishly, the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) announced their support for Toronto Pearson Airport’s (YYZ) privatization. (executive bonus anyone?)

Then, in the middle of bargaining, the GTAA sided with Swissport management against their employees represented by Teamsters 419. In an unprecedented move, the GTAA issued operating licenses to strike-breaking temp agencies.

Talks immediately broke down, and the members of Teamsters 419 are now in the third month of a bitter strike. The workers have been replaced by hundreds of inexperienced scabs, creating many safety and security concerns. For other airport workers and for the travelling public.

Please, go
HERE and send a protest e-mail.

And, just as importantly, pass this message on to your friends, family and co-workers.
Thank you!

In Solidarity,
