Canadians caught in major security breach

PAOV —

It’s extremely unsettling to hear that your personal information might have been compromised. After Equifax’s massive data security breach last month, concerned Canadians are demanding that two consumer credit reporting agencies involved in the recent catastrophe do more to fight identity theft.

Thousands of Canadians may have been negatively affected by the breach. While these reporting agencies offer American citizens the option to freeze credit scores and access helpful resources, Canadians don’t enjoy the privilege of such services. This leaves them vulnerable at any time.

Juil from Toronto believes free credit freeze services would give people the ability to protect their credit data on their own terms. Juil’s petition calls on Equifax and TransUnion — two Canadian consumer credit reporting agencies headquartered in the U.S. — to allow Canadians to freeze and unfreeze their credit when they want and at no extra cost.

While full protection requires many solutions, people like Juil are confident that it would be a positive step in giving people more tools to do more to be proactive in mitigating future theft. If you believe that Canadians should have the right to protect their credit data, add your name to Juil’s petition if you support this cause.
