Ontario sells pets to labs?

PAOV —

For pets in Ontario Canada, the pound is a fate worse than death. Pets are not given the time needed to be found, adopted, or humanely euthanized. Instead, they are provided to research labs across Canada. This isn’t by choice, but mandated by law.

After just three days, the province’s Animals for Research Act mandates the sale or release of dogs and cats from municipal shelters to research, testing, or educational laboratories.

The Animal Alliance Of Canada started this petition to implore Premier Wynne to amend the Animals for Research Act to remove the mandate. Please sign and share if you agree Ontario’s pets should not be sold for experimentation.

Royal, a sweet, elderly dog, is a victim of pound release. He went missing from his family’s home only to turn up in a pound. The facility did not even wait the required period before selling him to the University of Guelph for research. Royal’s family frantically searched for him, but will never see their beloved pet again.

Pets, like Royal, undergo chronic and painful procedures at research labs. Dogs and cats are often used in toxicology testing, experimental drug testing or medical procedures, all before being destroyed at the end of the trial.

Because of this tragic fate for shelter pets, Animal Alliance Of Canada is asking Premier Wynne to amend the Animals for Research Act to exclude the pound mandate. Please sign this petition to stop the sale of Ontario’s pets to research and testing facilities.
