Good news! Clovis is out.

We all spoke up. He stepped down.

Dear PAOV,

Sam Clovis should never have been in the running for the position of head scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Not only is he not a scientist, he openly admits he has no training or experience in agricultural issues.

This week, opposition to his controversial nomination was building to a fever pitch —  and this morning he withdrew his name from consideration.

This is a tremendous win.

The Clovis appointment was an insult to farmers and rural families across the country. An inflammatory talk show host who denies the veracity of climate change research, Clovis was also notorious for his homophobic and racist remarks.

More than 3,100 researchers and scientists spoke up in opposition to the nomination, joining hundreds of thousands of concerned individuals like you.

Our farmers deserve so much better. The challenges they face — from severe weather events to pollinator declines and deteriorating soil health — make the importance of strong science at USDA crystal clear.

Thank you so much for being part of our efforts to fight back against this administration’s war on science and reason.

Warmly,

Kristin Schafer
