WATCH: The Forgotten Electricity that Undercuts the Argument for Site C
Did you know that every year B.C. sells a Site-C's-worth of electricity at spot prices to the U.S.? Under the Columbia River Treaty, B.C. is entitled to use that power should we ever need it. The existence of that agreement is yet another reason experts have raised questions about the need and ultimate justification for the costly and controversial Site C dam.

Six Simple Ways Canada Can Make Oil-By-Rail Way Safer
By James Wilt
In recent months, there’s been a re-emergence of one of the oil industry’s most adored tropes: that without new pipelines, companies will ship oil by rail and threaten entire communities with derailments, explosions and spills.
The jury’s still very much out on whether shipments will actually increase by much more than what we’ve seen in the past. Regardless, there’s one thing that strangely never gets mentioned by proponents of the argument.

Can Reader-Funded News Save Canadian Journalism?
By Emma Gilchrist
“Some newspapers dig. Some newspapers are a constant embarrassment to the powerful. Some manage to be entertaining, provocative, and fair at the same time. There are a few such newspapers in Canada.”
That statement probably doesn’t come as a shock to many Canadians in 2017.
What may come as a surprise is that the quote is actually drawn from a report published in 1970 by the Special Senate Committee on Mass Media. If Canada’s media landscape was stifled by mediocrity nearly 50 years, it’s positively suffocated by it now. Read more.
