Dear PAOV,
Last week, Scott Pruitt finally appeared before Congress. This is the longest a new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) head has ever gone without reporting to legislators.
Pruitt has good reason to avoid public scrutiny. Day after day, he’s making decisions that ignore science, threaten the health of families across the country — and benefit big corporations.
Pruitt has already rolled back, delayed or undermined more than 50 health and environmental safeguards. Here are just two glaring examples:
- While farmers reel from 3.6 million acres of crop losses caused by Monsanto’s herbicide dicamba, EPA gave the go-ahead for continued use next season. Just as Monsanto requested.
- Pruitt’s about-face on the planned ban of chlorpyrifos came just weeks after a private meeting with Dow executives. Now millions of children, farmworkers and rural families will continue to be exposed to 7-8 million pounds of this brain-harming insecticide every year.
This is unacceptable. It’s time for congressional leaders to step in.
It seems Administrator Pruitt has forgotten that he works for all of us, not for Monsanto and Dow. We think Congress needs to remind him. And quickly.
Sign on today. We’ll deliver your signature to the leaders of the House and Senate, plus every committee member responsible for EPA oversight (that’s 20 Representatives and 21 Senators).
Thanks for all you do.
