It’s crunch time for the Bayer-Monsanto merger. We just heard that U.S. competition authorities are making a decision very soon.
But here is the problem: Key decision makers are being fed messages by Monsanto’s lobbyists -- convincing them farmers actually WANT Bayer and Monsanto to merge.
Now, you and I know that is ludicrous -- Monsanto has a long history of ruining small, family-owned farms with lawsuits and bullying -- but it’s also a classic Monsanto tactic.
Farmers are desperate to get their message of opposition to regulators. That’s why they’ve reached out to the SumOfUs community for help.
Here is our plan: If we can get $15,000 together in the next three days, we can commission a poll of farmers to show the competition authorities that farmers do NOT want this toxic mega merger. But we need to act fast.

Donate CA$90 Donate CA$134 Donate CA$179The idea that farmers would actually support this merger is just absurd. Seeds and pesticides are some of their biggest expenses, and with even fewer choices of where to buy them, prices will surely go up.
But for years, Monsanto has invested in building fake grassroots groups and pouring money into farm bureaus that will mimic their policy positions.
Now, we’re getting word from our allies who are talking directly to these regulators that they are actually starting to believe Monsanto’s nonsense claims. But, without hard data we can’t counter their argument.
That’s why we need to conduct a high quality poll with a large sample size that will be impossible to dismiss.
And we have to act fast. Next week, the EU is expected to announce a list of objections -- including how the merger will harm farmers. It has the potential to blow up the whole thing, if we can stop Monsanto’s and Bayer’s lobbyists from duping the regulators into thinking that farmers actually want to be ripped off.
We’re aiming to raise $15,000 to fight the Bayer-Monsanto merger and pay for a high quality poll of farmers in the U.S. that will prove Monsanto wrong.
