Two journalists in jail

r1 ... PAOV —

Two Reuters journalists could spend 14 years in a Myanmar prison for reporting on atrocities being committed by the military. They have already spent a month behind bars — unable to see lawyers and family for weeks — and their only hope could be people like you speaking out.

You can show your support for their release and safe return by signing this petition today.

On December 12th, Wa Lone, 31, and his colleague Kyaw Soe Oo, 27, were arrested for what Myanmar officials say are breaches of a little-used law called the Official Secrets Act. They had been invited to meet police for dinner and were accused of illegally acquiring information with the intention of sharing it with foreign media.

Journalists around the world risk their lives and freedom every day. When governments try to silence their reporting, people have successfully turned to on their behalf. A powerful example came in 2014 when more than 541,000 signatures helped free Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian from Iranian custody.

Like Jason Rezaian, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo need the support of the international community to gain their freedom. If you want to send a message to the Myanmar government to free these two men, please sign and share the petition today.
