McDonald’s gives out millions of ocean-polluting plastic straws everyday -- which end up killing sea life and as microplastics in our food chain.
Share this Olympics-themed video to put pressure on McDonald’s to ditch plastic straws, while it’s in the global spotlight as a sponsor of the Olympics.
A,
Our oceans are full of plastic, and unless we persuade global polluters like McDonald’s to stop, it’s only going to get worse.
Right now, McDonald’s is in the spotlight as a sponsor of the excitement of the Winter Olympics. That’s where SumOfUs members like you come in. Together, we can make this spoof video go viral,... and expose how far McDonald’s polluting behaviour strays from the values of the Olympics.
If thousands of us take just one minute to share this video on Facebook and Twitter, we could push McDonald’s into ditching plastic straws now. It won’t like the criticism at a time when it’s putting on a global show as an Olympic sponsor!
Or, Tweet now!Plastic debris is forming huge floating islands of waste in our most beautiful oceans and plastic straws are a major culprit. Fish, birds and marine animals eat this garbage, thinking it's food, and many then end up starving to death -- their stomachs blocked with plastic.
The heartbreaking video of a marine biologist extracting a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s bleeding nose exposed just how dangerous plastic straws in our oceans are. But McDonald’s still hands out millions of one-time-use straws every day!
Over 370,000 SumOfUs members have already signed the petition telling McDonald’s to ditch plastic straws -- and McDonald’s has taken notice. On Friday, company bosses called SumOfUs to say that they’ve certainly noticed our campaign and the thousands of emails from SumOfUs supporters. But we need more than words -- which is why together, our movement of millions needs to turn up the heat.
We know that when SumOfUs members like you stand up for what’s right, together we can force companies to change. After all we’ve done it before.
We’ve forced McDonald's -- along with companies like Starbucks and KFC -- to commit to sourcing 100% responsible palm oil. When we expose the ugly side of corporate giants, like McDonald's, they take action to protect their brand. And in doing so we score a massive victory for our planet.
Thanks for all that you do,
Rebecca, Sondhya, Wiebke and the team at SumOfUs
