stopping Bells internet takeover

SumOfUs r1 ...

A -- we just got word the CRTC is extending the net neutrality comment period for an extra 30 days! This gives us more time to step up this critical fight for net neutrality in Canada.

We're going all out -- we've got radio ads, a hard-hitting billboard, digital ads AND transit ads ready to go -- but we need your help to pull it all off.

Will you chip in now to protect net neutrality in Canada? Every dollar will help us fight back.

A,

It finally happened. Bell’s coalition of telecommunication giants, calling itself FairPlay Canada, just submitted their treacherous proposal to the CRTC to censor the internet and force the end of net neutrality in Canada.

This dangerous proposal would blacklist certain sites, putting unprecedented control over what Canadians view on the net in the hands of a handful of unaccountable corporations.

We only have two weeks to raise the roof on this issue in time for the CRTC’s March 1st comment deadline. That’s why we need your help now. A special gift now will allow us to buy key ads, flood the airwaves with our message and ensure thousands of Canadians have their voices heard so that Bell's proposal doesn’t go through.

Bell's dangerous proposal undermines a key tenet of net neutrality by preventing Canadians from having control over which websites they visit. It’s the first step in a slippery slope towards corporations controlling how we use the internet and it can’t be allowed to go through.

SumOfUs is partnering with some of the brightest minds on net neutrality right now to protect our free and open internet. But strategic tactics including billboard and radio ads and attending Bell’s AGM to deliver our petition of over 92,000 signatures directly to key executives won't be cheap.

Your special gift now will ensure that we can make a huge stink before the CRTC’s March 1st comment deadline and let Bell and the CRTC know that Canadians want to protect net neutrality.

SumOfUs has taken on massive corporations before -- and won. Because of your generous support, we were able to take out key ads blanketing the Politico website calling on politicians to stop the Bayer-Monsanto merger.

This massive outpouring of support prompted the European Commission to open up an in-depth review of the merger, instead of just approving it outright.

We're also fighting across the border in the US right now for net neutrality -- because irrespective of the border, this is an issue with global ramifications.

We know what tactics work and we use them to win -- but we can’t implement them without your help. By buying key ads we can influence decision-makers and raise the profile of an issue that Bell would love to see swept under the rug.

SumOfUs may not have the financial might of Bell’s coalition of telecommunications giants but we know that when each of us chips in a small amount we can take them on and protect net neutrality from these greedy corporations.
