Drift & pesticide treadmill are top concerns

Dear PAOV,

The merger of pesticide industry giants Monsanto and Bayer is not yet a done deal, and a new poll shows that many farmers think it’s a terrible idea.

Stand with concerned farmers today! Tell officials at the Department of Justice (DoJ) to stop this mega-merger before it’s too late.

Nearly 1,000 farmers in 48 states, representing all sectors of farming, were asked about the pending merger. More than 90% expressed concern, with top worries being increased pressure to practice chemical-dependent farming and reduced choice for seeds and other inputs.

Last season’s dicamba drift crisis, with more than 3.5 million soy acres damaged by Monsanto’s latest seed/herbicide combo, no doubt heightens these concerns for farmers.

Tell DoJ officials a Bayer-Monsanto merger is bad for food and farming, and must be stopped.

Here’s Roger Johnson, President of the National Farmers Union, on the proposed merger:

“Family farmers deserve fair prices, choices in what they plant, and the type of market competition that incentivizes firms to compete and innovate. A Bayer-Monsanto merger stands to move each of these factors in the wrong direction.”

We agree. This merger could also allow Monsanto to rebrand their way out of recent controversies, including glyphosate health impacts and dicamba crop damage. As you know, DowDuPont is trying to do exactly this with their new “Corteva” brand.

Stand with farmers in demanding a more sustainable food system. Urge DoJ to stop this merger, today!

Thanks for all you do.
