Drift & pesticide treadmill are top concernsDear PAOV,
The merger of pesticide industry giants Monsanto and Bayer has hit a roadblock in the U.S. Thousands of PAN supporters recently told the Department of Justice (DoJ) the merger should not proceed — in support of farmers across the country who have expressed concern about the impacts on their livelihoods and communities.
Our pressure is working. Even though the EU has just given the merger a green light, back in the States, the DoJ's antitrust division is now worried the merger could hurt competition.
Nearly 1,000 farmers in 48 states, representing all sectors of farming, were asked about the pending merger. More than 9 out of every 10 farmers expressed concern, with a top worry being reduced choice for seeds and other inputs — concerns mirrored by the Department of Justice.
Tell DoJ officials a Bayer-Monsanto merger is bad for food and farming, and must be stopped.
If the antitrust division of the DoJ isn't satisfied with Bayer-Monsanto's proposed conditions of the merger, the Justice Department could file a lawsuit in an effort to block the merger altogether.
Stand with farmers today in demanding a more sustainable food system. Urge DoJ to stop this merger!
Thanks for all you do.
