Community Meeting:
Start Working Groups to Stop KM!
We were inspired to see so much enthusiasm to stop KM in this town! In order to turn that energy into action, we are facilitating a community meeting at 7:00pm Monday, April 9th at CityStudio: 742 Johnson Street. The goal of this meeting is to set up Working Groups to take on different aspects of organizing.
For example, in our last meeting we collectively identified several needs, including:
- Fundraising
- Political pressure (phone banks, letter campaigns, pressuring politicians)
- Direct actions aimed at local targets (subcontractors, government offices, banks, etc)
- Getting involved in ongoing trips to Burnaby

Back to Homeland for the Salmon:
Matriarch Camp Send Off
April 15th, 201811am to 1pm
2806 Jacklin Rd
Calling all supporters of wild salmon! You are invited to join us Sunday, April 15th as we participate in a FINAL send off for Tsastilqualus Umbas and the Matriarch Camp. At this family friendly, dry event there will be powerful speakers, music, dancing, drumming, arts & crafts, merchandise and more.
Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for the past six months, Tsastilqualus Umbas has held down her position outside John Horgan's office in unceded Lkwungen territory. Through rain, snow, and wind storms, facing threats, arrests and physical abuse, she and the warrior women supporting her, including Shawna, Pod and others never faltered in their reslience to protect the wild salmon. Despite this sacrifice and ongoing cry for action, Horgan himself never once showed his face, nor publicly commented on the ceaseless efforts of these women, continuing to ignore the emergency situation faced by wild salmon as the epidemics spread by farmed fish in major migratory routes decimate wild populations. Upon relocation, the matriarch camp will continue to stand against this illegal activity in unceded indigenous waters.
