Trudeau, a Big Oil bail out is the wrong move.

Let's show Trudeau the political cost of writing a blank cheque for Big OIl r1

Friends,

Earlier this week, Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced that the Trudeau government is willing to write a blank cheque to bail out the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker project.1

The Trudeau government clearly thinks they can get away with these dirty dealings without losing their support base. Let’s show them they can’t. E-mail Trudeau and his Ministers to let them know that a Big Oil bailout is the wrong move.

It’s unbelievable. The same government that was elected on a platform that promised real action on climate change, a nation to nation relationship with First Nations, and an end to fossil fuel subsidies now wants to use billions of our tax dollars to build a massive climate wrecking pipeline that doesn’t have Indigenous consent and indemnify a... massive Texas corporation.

The Kinder Morgan CEO swiftly followed Morneau’s announcement by saying that despite this offer, “it’s hard to conceive of a scenario” where the project could proceed. This could very well be a ploy by the company to extort more money from the government, but without a doubt, it’s also a strong indication that Indigenous-led resistance has got Kinder Morgan worried. They know that the opposition to this project isn’t going anywhere -- and they’d rather bow out now than face the full force of people power farther down the line.

Let’s show them the scale of what they’re up against. Send a message to Trudeau and his ministers to let them that if they bailout Big Oil Kinder Morgan, they will lose your support in the next election.

Together, we can flood the inboxes of the Prime Minister and his inner circle and make it impossible for them to ignore our message.

The Liberal caucus is constantly confronted by people opposing this pipeline. Over the last few weeks people in dozens of communities, including myself, have showed up at MP offices and disrupted Liberal Party events to speak up against a bail out of Kinder Morgan. Can you help us drive the message home?

Thanks for all that you have done in the fight to stop the Kinder Morgan tar sands pipeline. It’s no small feat that even the CEO of the company thinks the future looks bleak for the project.

Let’s keep showing up and speaking up until we win.

Onwards,

Atiya
