Right now, the federal government is meeting to consider new environmental laws that could exclude most tar sands projects from a climate assessment.

Today is the final day to flood Natural Resource Minister Carr voice mail to ensure that the new regulations protect our climate and respect Indigenous rights -- not corporate profits.

Call Minister Carr

A,

It’s ridiculous: The Liberal government’s proposed replacement for the National Energy Board (NEB) and new impact assessment will exclude most new tar sands projects.

This legislation, Bill C-69, has the potential to show Canada’s leadership in the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, in its current state, it’s more of a concession to... oil companies and corporate profits than the real climate protection that people in Canada are demanding and the world desperately needs.

But, together, we can help ensure that this bill lives up to its potential.

A special committee is meeting right now to review the legislation and make critical decisions on how these major oil and gas projects get regulated. The meeting is expected to continue well into the night tonight -- and potentially into tomorrow. That means that leaving a message on Natural Resource Minister Carr's voice mail can make a massive difference on Bill C-69.

Will you leave a quick message to Minister Carr to demand stronger environmental regulation of all oil and gas projects?

The Liberal government campaigned on a platform of scrapping the NEB and putting in a new process that would consider the rights of Indigenous peoples, and the real impact of oil and gas projects on the climate.

But Bill C-69 falls short of meeting that promise. Many tar sands projects would be exempt from climate review under the proposed legislation, despite these dirty projects being some of the biggest offenders. Minister Carr needs to be reminded that all oil and gas projects need to be reviewed, and that Indigenous rights should be considered at the forefront of all projects.

But timing is critical as they are meeting now and making their final decision.

Please make a phone call to Minister Carr today to protect Indigenous rights and protect the climate.

We’re no stranger to fighting for proper environmental regulation in the oil and gas industry. When Suncor came up with an outrageous plan to clean up its tailing mess within 75 years, over 5,000 people like you sent messages directly to the Alberta Energy Regulator to call for stricter tailing regulations.

We know that, together, we have the power to influence legislation and truly protect Indigenous rights and the environment.

Thanks for all that you do,
