Hi Paov, what question about the Facebook privacy scandal would you most like to have answered?

Next week, the Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Christopher Wylie... will be appearing in front of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. They’ll be asking him about the privacy violations he revealed, how Canadians were affected, and Facebook’s role in the scandal.

And members of the committee have agreed to put questions from the OpenMedia community on the list.

What would you ask him about what happened, who is responsible, and how to stop this from happening again?

ASK YOUR QUESTION

Christopher Wylie is a Canadian data scientist who came forward with proof that Cambridge Analytica had funded the harvesting of Facebook profiles. The information from those profiles was used to power software that targeted voters with personalised messaging.

This information he revealed also showed how political campaigns like Vote Leave in the UK spent huge sums of money with the Canadian data firm AIQ to influence vote outcomes.1

With elections in Canada coming up in 2019, we urgently need answers about what happened, and what our government needs to do to stop it from happening again.

Submit your comment on our crowdsourcing page, or just jump on and vote for your favourite questions. We’ll be sending a short list of the top rated ones to the committee.

ASK YOUR QUESTION

Over 600,000 Canadians have had their privacy compromised. But together, our community is fighting for much-needed reforms to stop these kinds of violations.2
