Urgent: the Canadian government just announced it was buying the Trans Mountain pipeline project from Kinder Morgan for a whopping $4.5 billion of taxpayers money.
But the fight isn’t over. Will you chip in to stop this terrible project for good?
A,
It’s heartbreaking to write this email, but I knew you would want to know what just happened with the Trans Mountain pipeline project.
In a terrible announcement this morning, Finance Minister Bill Morneau stated that the Federal government has bought the Trans Mountain pipeline and expansion project for a whopping $4.5 billion, coming straight out of our tax dollars.
It’s shocking that our government would do something so irresponsible with our tax dollars, despite industry insiders all saying that no investors would want to touch this project.
The good news is, this doesn’t mean that the pipeline will go through.
The $4.5 billion is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to costs. The government is being really secretive about the real costs of construction which will balloon that figure and drain more precious tax dollars that could be going to health care, education or clean water for Indigenous nations.
We’re not going to stop fighting to protect Indigenous land rights and our climate against this disastrous project. And we’re not going to let the Federal government waste anymore of our tax money on a doomed pipeline.
Will you chip in to put the final nail in the coffin of the Trans Mountain pipeline?

The government is avoiding talking about costs of construction, which will likely skyrocket that price tag, leaving people in Canada footing a bill to line oil companies’ pockets.
Kinder Morgan, I’m sure, is laughing all the way to the bank this morning.
Will you chip in to stop this dangerous, unjust pipeline once and for all?

The Federal government is being extraordinarily irresponsible with taxpayers’ money but we can help mitigate the losses by stopping the pipeline expansion and preventing the government from wasting our money on a pipeline that still has 16 active legal cases against it.
SumOfUs has been working to stop this pipeline every step of the way.
Because of members like you, we crashed Trudeau’s elite fundraiser with a protest that gained national media attention and sent an Indigenous delegation straight to Kinder Morgan’s AGM to speak against the dangerous project.
We know that, when we work together, we will use every strategy possible to stop this pipeline.
