Dear PAofVic,
I wanted to let you know about something quite incredible that’s about to begin in the service of peace. Over the next year, a supporter of Quaker peace and social justice work, Lynn Salvo, is planning to ride her bike around North America so that the rides connect up to form a giant peace symbol. She wants her rides to build peace and this is where... you come in.
When Lynn retired in 2014, she wasn’t content to stay at home. She took up extensive bike riding. Just two years later, at the age of 67, she set a Guinness World Record for oldest female to bike across the United States!

Now Lynn has her sights set on an ambitious ride across Canada beginning in just days. This isn’t only about getting another world record though. Lynn is asking you and other Canadians to give to Canadian Friends Service Committee and donors in the US to give to our sister agency the American Friends Service Committee. If you’re close enough, Lynn would also love to meet you when she cycles through your area!
She’s planning stops at peace monuments from the west coast to the east:

Lynn explains, “My choice for this cause is personal. In 1970, I lost my beloved older brother in the useless conflict we call the Vietnam War. In 2015, on my first transcontinental bicycle trip, I visited the National Museum of the Pacific War. I exited the museum building into what appeared to be an outdoor tranquil place, until I realized it was a memorial ‘garden’ — wall after wall of memorials to individuals and groups. Then I came to a blank wall and its meaning caught me in the gut. It was a space for memorials to other lives lost to war and families disrupted. If I can do something to prevent one more name going on a memorial wall and another family being turned upside down, then it’s worth it.”
Lynn is asking you to donate to CFSC. Will you make a donation today and show your commitment to stopping the next memorial?
With thanks,
Matthew Legge
