Take Action on Rental Housing

NationBuilder r1 BC Poverty Reduction Coalition

The government should have heard you loud and clear: Housing is the Number One challenge in BC!

Housing came... up as the highest priority in all but one of the 28 communities that the government visited during the poverty reduction consultations.

Now they’ve opened up a dedicated consultation on rental housing to dig deeper into the issues and improve security and fairness for renters. The Rental Housing Task Force is hosting meetings in 7 more communities throughout BC and accepting email comments and submissions until July 6.

We’ve made sure that what you said about housing in the poverty reduction meetings is being sent to the Rental Housing Task Force but, if you missed those meetings or you have more to say, now’s your chance:

Resources to Support You:

  • We will be sending in a submission that recommends the government introduce stronger tenant protections including:
    • tying rent control to the unit (not the tenant);
    • tighter limits on annual rent increases;
    • adequately enforcing the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA) and the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act;
    • and extending tenant rights to include all non-profit social housing currently exempt from the RTA.

Thanks for your continued engagement, we really appreciate it!
