News is just breaking across the country that the courts have quashed Trudeau’s approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline.
This is a HUGE win -- but our the Federal Government will soon own the pipeline and will fight back. Now is the time to tell Trudeau to honour the court’s decision and stop the Trans Mountain pipeline.
A,
Breaking news -- federal courts sided with First Nations and quashed the approval of... the Trans Mountain pipeline. This is a HUGE victory for Indigenous rights, the climate and our coasts. And it wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of Indigenous leaders bringing this court case forward and fighting for the last two years.
The courts have spoken: there was not adequate or meaningful consultation with Indigenous nations on the Trans Mountain pipeline which was a necessary condition of approving the disastrous project.
Now it’s time for Prime Minister Trudeau to honour the decision of the courts and finally put an end to this destructive pipeline project. We need to let Trudeau know that people in Canada will not sit idly by and push through a pipeline that violates Indigenous rights.
Tell Prime Minister Trudeau: honour the courts decisions and stop the Trans Mountain pipeline.
This victory is due to years of work by Indigenous leaders. And, in this critical time of reconciliation, honouring the court’s decision is more important than ever. Trudeau campaigned on a platform of improving Indigenous relationships. It’s time he lived up to those promises and stopped this disastrous pipeline.
The court’s decision comes the day before Finance minister Bill Morneau says Canada will finalize the sale of the pipeline. However, Trudeau still has time to back out of the $4.5 billion deal that would put the doomed pipeline in the hands of taxpayers.
Over the years, thousands of SumOfUs members have contributed to the fund that brought this lawsuit, so this victory could not have happened without you. And time and time again, you have supported the fight. Just earlier this year, because of members like you, we were able to send an Indigenous delegation to Kinder Morgan’s shareholder meeting and speak against the Trans Mountain pipeline project.
Together, we will continue to support Indigenous-led resistance to the Trans Mountain pipeline. We know that, when we work together and take the lead from Indigenous leaders, we can -- and will -- stop this disastrous pipeline.
Trudeau: honour the courts and scrap Trans Mountain
Thanks for all that you do,
