Our FACT CHECK site was attacked and shut down!

You can get more Fact Check videos made and the Fact Checker in front of more BC voters!

Dear FVC Supporter,

On Saturday, we launched a Proportional Representation Fact Checker Site - two of Canada's top electoral reform experts objectively evaluating the claims made by both sides in BC's referendum.

Within hours the site had slowed down and by Sunday it was failing to load at all.

It has now been confirmed by our technical specialist that the Fact Check site was attacked by someone trying to shut us down by overwhelming the site with over 80,000 page requests.

What FACTS about the claims made by the NO campaign does someone not want BC voters to see?

Your generous support can get this site in front of more BC voters!

Since this campaign started, the NO side - led or backed by the BC Liberal Party, professional lobbyists, the anti-union business association and a multi-millionaire businessman - have been running a relentless misinformation campaign.

They've been helped by strategists behind the campaigns of Doug Ford, Stephen Harper and the U.S. Republicans. The claims they are using to flood the mainstream media and social media range from distortions and exaggerations to outright falsehoods.

The expert-backed Fact Check site aims to take an OBJECTIVE look at what's being said by both sides.

Can you chip in so we can make more videos for the Fact Check site and make sure we have the funds to get the truth in front of more BC voters?

There are 8 topics "Fact Checked" so far on the site. About pro rep and regional representation. About pro rep and the economy. About pro rep and "appointed MLAs". The NO side misinformation campaign means these are the things we're hearing at the door!

But there are only four videos. That's because we're a grassroots citizens campaign led by passionate volunteers and without a huge budget.

The opponent groups can raise and spend up to $200,000 each (and the official proponent campaigns have $500,000 from the government as well) - and you better bet the opponents can raise that much money from their wealthy friends to scare voters.

The initial financial disclosure reports to Elections BC showed that while Fair Vote Canada is supported by many people who donate what they can, the NO side is supported by a few people who can sit down and write a single $1200 cheque.

This isn't the first time our website has been attacked. Ironically, the same thing happened on June 13, right after we sent out an email about the Fact Check site, when someone used two IP addresses to overwhelm our server with 500,000 requests. But our tech expert tells us that the attack this weekend was much more sophisticated.

Those who want to keep the facts from BC voters can slow us down, but thanks to you, they can't stop us!

It's up to us to pull together, campaign hard to take the power away from the insiders, and help BC become the first in Canada to adopt proportional representation.

In 27 days until the ballots land in BC mailboxes. It's now or never to get the truth out to BC voters.

Please chip in for more Fact Check videos now and promotion of our site - so every voter on social media in BC will see it. A win for proportional representation in BC is a win for all of us.

Sincerely,

Anita Nickerson
