Appeal to help Cuba Recover from Tornado Damages
Our Victoria Friends of Cuba committee extends our heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the families of the six people who died and almost 200 people who were injured after the sudden tornado that hit Havana's municipalities. Dr. José Rubiera, renowned Cuban meteorologist, states that in Havana's 500 years of existence this year, a tornado has never been known as that which hit on Jan. 27.
The damage is extensive and has greatly set back the situation for the Cuban people in the tornado's path.
Our committee is now collecting funds to help out with the rebuilding of damages caused by the tornado and to show our solidarity with Cuba.
If any of us would like to contribute please make cheques out to the "Victoria Friends of Cuba” fill the memo line with "For Tornado Damages” and send it to:
Victoria Friends of Cuba c/o Randy Caravaggio

Shawnigan Lake, BC

Cheques can also be brought to our Social Justice Film night event which takes place on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This month since the hall wasn’t available for the 3rd Thursday it will be on the 4th Thursday - 7pm Thurs. Feb. 28 at the 2994 Douglas (BCGEU). More info. on it coming soon.
All collected funds from our committee will get to Cuba by transferring them to the Tornado Relief Account in Cuba. We do not retain any portions of what we collect.
Always in Solidarity,
Victoria Friends of Cuba

Dr. Rachel McKinnon is a philosopher, athlete, and activist for trans rights. She is the 2018 UCI Masters Track Cycling world champion in the Women 35-44 Sprint event, giving her a unique perspective on trans athlete rights. Rachel is the first trans world champion in an Olympic event.
"In this paper, co-written by Dr. Aryn Conrad, we examine the legal and ethical foundation for inclusion of transgender women athletes in competitive sport, drawing on International Olympic Committee principles and relevant Court of Arbitration for Sport decisions. We argue that the inclusion of trans athletes in competition commensurate with their legal gender is the most consistent position with these principles of fair and equitable sport."

Ciel has lived on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories, Victoria BC, her entire life. As an uninvited settler, Ciel works to decolonize her learning and artistic practices.
