What this event is:
Yesterday, approximately 50 people were shot and killed inside a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand. As a way to stand against Islamophobia, and white supremacy, while also remembering those who were murdered and showing support for their
 families and communities, this event is to show solidarity with the Muslim community, as well as any other impacted communities.
This act of white supremacy and discrimination is growing, and it is crucial that we all take a stance to...  act against it.
We will be having people gather to light candles and leave supportive notes. We would also like people to come up and speak about the incident.
NOTE:
1. While we encourage people to come up and speak, we want space to made for Muslim people, specifically.
2. Campaign by the NZ Islamic Information Centre to raise money for the families:

Location & time:
- Location
o The area of the vigil will be at spirit square (centennial square), which is located next to city hall downtown. It’s off of Douglas and Pandora street on all of the major bus routes (4, 14, 11, 15, 21, 22, 70, 50, 99, 27, 28, all within a one or two block
 radius).
o We will be meeting either by the fountains or under the covered area part near the fountain depending on whether or not it’s raining. I will post the specific spot closer to the time.
o There are gendered public washrooms. There are both steps and ramps in and out of the square.
- Time:
o 3 to 5 pm. Volunteers and facilitators meet at 2:30 (if possible).

This event is taken on the stolen and unceded lands of the Lekwungen people. As we push to work against white supremacy, may we also always take decolonial roots, and push for better Indigenous rights.
