Dear colleagues,
As members of the Open Forum Against Racism (OFAR), we are in support of the Students’ Open Forum Against Racism (SOFAR), at the University of Victoria. Both groups seek to address institutional racism and colonialism. SOFAR is specifically composed of UVic students who are working towards challenging on-campus and institutional racism, colonialism and systems of heteronormativity, patriarchy, and ableism.
The SOFAR is planning an interactive Storytelling Workshop for tomorrow, Thursday 7th March 2019, 6-8pm in the Student Union Building. This workshop is a student-led initiative to have a conversation about a mandatory general education requirement on anti-racism and anti-colonialism for all students... attending the University. This particular event will host Black Students, Indigenous Students, and Students of Colour to tell their stories of experiencing racism on campus in a variety of artistic forms. SOFAR members are very much hoping to have a strong faculty presence to both support the event and bear witness to the stories. I hope you are able to attend.
Please circulate this notice to other faculty and staff.
With thanks,
Rita (member of OFAR)
