A Climate Week call from Lummi Nation

A Climate Week call from Lummi Nation r1 ...

PAOV,

Climate Week has been full of hope, determination and powerful energy.

We are SO inspired by everyone who is taking part in this historic movement for climate justice and Indigneous solidarity.

Today, our coastal neighbors, Lummi Nation are calling on you to support them as they gather at the border for a rally to protect the Salish Sea, On this Climate Strike Day of Action, Lummi Nation is hosting a celebratory event to join forces with other Coast Salish Nations and allies to protect the salmon, orcas and waters that sustain us all.

Pacific Northwest Indigenous Peoples have always been courageous stewards of their homelands. The Lummi in particular are a force to be reckoned with. They have taken on seemingly unstoppable foes -- including an export terminal at Cherry Point -- and won.

With the threat from the Trans Mountain pipeline and tankers project looming, it has never been more clear that the Salish Sea needs all of us. We hope, as you find ways to put climate commitments into tangible action, you'll stand with the Lummi in solidarity with Nations taking on the Trans Mountain pipeline and tankers project.

Climate justice means that we aren’t only fighting for the health of our planet, but fighting to end the systems of oppression that caused climate change. That is why at RAVEN our sole mission is to put reconciliation into action by following Indigenous leadership and supporting Indigenous rights.

On this historic day, Lummi Nation are calling on supporters to donate to RAVEN's Pull Together campaign. Join Indigenous Peoples in taking a stand to stop the TransMountain pipeline and tankers project, and to defend the climate for all our relations, and all our descendants.

With love,

Maia + the RAVEN team

P.s. We all share the responsibility to protect our waters, our salmon, and qwe’lhol’mechen (orcas). As you step out on the streets and join hands in today’s Climate Strike, know that by standing together with Indigenous land, air and water protectors, you are putting reconciliation into action.
