INVASION: In an era of reconciliation, Indigenous land is being taken at gunpoint
Discussion with Sleydo Molly Wickham of Gidimt’en clan, Wet’suwet’en Nation

Date: Monday, Dec 9th
Location: Lkwungen Territory, Openspace, 510 Fort St 2nd floor
Time: 7pm - 9pm
Donations at the door to support Wet’suwet'en sovereignty

https://www.facebook.com/events/1500121250125873/

In this era of “reconciliation”, Indigenous land is still being taken at gunpoint. INVASION is a new film about the Unist’ot’en Camp, Gidimt’en checkpoint and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation standing up to the Canadian government and corporations who continue colonial violence against Indigenous people.

The Unist’ot’en Camp has been a beacon of resistance for nearly 10 years. It is a healing space for Indigenous people and settlers alike, and an active example of decolonization. The violence, environmental destruction, and disregard for human rights following TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) / Coastal GasLink’s interim injunction has been devastating to bear, but this fight is far from over.

Donations for Unist'ot'en to bring... to event:

- Nuts and seeds (anything but NO peanut or sunflower)
- chocolate and chocolate chips
- dry red or black beans

Dec. 15:

Friends of Cuba Fundraising Dinner

5 pm

2994 Douglas

See attached poster

Our annual year’s celebration of the Cuban Revolution will be celebrated a bit earlier this time since our Friends of Cuba Committee will be in Cuba on a fact finding mission in the beginning of January.

January 1, 2020 will mark the 61st year since the Cuban people were able to free themselves from the greed and immorality that capitalism was imposing on them. 61 years later Cuba has proven to the rest of the world and especially other Latin American and Caribbean countries that they can build a better country with Socialism and don’t have to put up with capitalism’s bullying, thievery and enslavement.

We hope you can join us for such a celebration.

Always in Solidarity and Friendship,

Victoria Friends of Cuba

Aid for Cuba collection:

The following material aid is being collected for next January when our committee will be visiting Cuba on a fact finding mission. Thanks to the US blockade, which is being tightened almost daily, we would like to fill all our suitcases with items that Cubans are in much need of.

If you would like to donate any of the following items please bring them to our event, if they need to be picked up, please let us know:

Office & Educational supplies - Pens, Pencils, Staplers, Staples, Note Pads, Erasers, Printing Paper, Magic Markers, Calculators, Computer Tablets and the like.

Health items - prescription drugs & eyeglasses, blood monitors, toothbrushes.

Musical Instruments - harmonicas, recorders, tambourines, flutes, whistles

The National Council of the National Association of the Blind of Cuba are very much in need of and have requested - Canes, Chess Games and a Braille Typewriter (all for the blind).

Another item requested by our great friends at the Cuban Institute in Solidarity with the People is a video camera for linking each other through the internet when they hold conferences.

All items must be new or as good as new. We need to bring our best for people we are in solidarity with.

We will purchase other items needed to fill our suitcases. Donations of funds to support this initiative are greatly appreciated. 100% of all donated funds will go for the purchasing of needed items.

Committee members will pay for all their own travel and accommodation expenses.
