Outraged by the RCMP news? Please Take Action r1 ...

Please don't let this violence go unchallenged.

The recent article in the Guardian showed what many suspected and were afraid of last January. That the RCMP were working with TCEnergy and CoastalGaslink, and were prepared to use “as much force as needed” on the Wet’suwet’en people in order to push the pipeline through.

The public have responded to this with outrage and youth have responded with the hashtag #WouldYouShootMeToo?

Would they? Would they have used potentially lethal force on the Wet’suwet’en people? Would they use it on you when it comes time to remove your rights? What happens if the injunction rules against the Unist’ot’en and Gidimt’en and the crown sends militarized force to remove Indigenous elders from their territory?

What then?

What now?

Now we tell the Government of Canada that we are united. That to use force on one of us is to use force on all of us. That we stand with the Wet’suwet’en.

We suggest that if Canadian, you write, call, and mention your representative on social media. See this page for who they are. Use the hashtag #WouldYouShootMeToo on social media, and use the included statement below for emails and phone calls.

If you are American, we suggest that you use #WouldYouShootMeToo on social media and tag Coastal Gaslink, your local news sources, and Justin Trudeau.

If you are affiliated with a community group, we urge you to draft a letter of solidarity. Post it publicly, share it with your representatives and Justin Trudeau.

The need is urgent, and we cannot be silent in this moment.

This is the time to put a stop to state sanctioned violence against Indigenous people. Progress and reconciliation don't come at the end of a gun.

My name is __________ and I am writing to voice my solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en people and ask that you take action to stop the violence this community faces.

I plead with you to do everything in your power to bring the volatile and unjust situation on Wet’suwet’en territories into discussion in Parliament with the aim of immediately stopping all work being done by TC Energy on the Coastal GasLink Pipeline.

I ask that you pursue the removal of all RCMP detachments and patrols established within Wet’suwet’en Territories since December 2018.

As a citizen, I seek a full independent investigation into the RCMP’s willingness to use lethal force, willingness to target and arrest unarmed Indigenous people and elders, and that they were prepared to apprehend children.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Thank you,
-Unsit'ot'en Solidarity Brigade
