UVic-led Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions has launched a new free online climate change course emphasizing actions and policy tools that governments, businesses and individuals can use to fight the climate crisis locally and globally.

UVic’s Ocean Networks Canada’s Digital Fishers game was featured in a CBC News story “5 easy ways to become a freelance scientist”. The article emphasizes the importance of citizen science and lists different ways people can contribute to scientific research, aiding scientists around the world.

UVic’s Polis Project on Ecological Governance released a new report “A Blueprint for Watershed Governance in British Columbia” that focuses on current water governance issues in B.C. and offers a path forward for how the province could transform its current approaches to decision-making to ensure a more sustainable and resilient future.

The David Suzuki Foundation offers some interesting insight into the debate on whether rail or pipelines are the safest way to transport heavy crude oil and bitumen – perhaps we are asking the wrong question.

The Sierra Club of BC provides interesting new data on the need to conserve our forests in BC in order to fight climate change as they are now becoming a significant source of carbon rather than a carbon sink.

RETURN OF THE ELECTRIC CAR

Jan 31st, 6:30 to 10 OM, Save-On Foods Memorial Arena

Hosted by the Victoria Leaf Club. On January 31, 2014, The Victoria Royals WHL hockey club will host the Vancouver Giants at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria on a night celebrating "The Return of the Electric Car". The arena concourse will be filled with brand new 2014 electric cars courtesy several manufacturers and dealerships. See website for event info and ticket purchase.

SOCIAL COAST FARM CRAWL: FARMERS FOR A DAY

Feb 2nd, 10 AM to 5:45 PM, Saanich Peninsula

Head out on the Social Coast Community Action Bus for a day of touring and learning about local farms. Do some tastings and help out with some tasks around the farms. See website for more info and to register.
