TAKE ACTION End For-Profit Seniors Care in BC

Take_Action.pngRight now, 79 per cent of Canada’s COVID-19 deaths are connected to long-term care facilities and make up the majority... of deaths in BC. Many seniors lost their lives too soon and their families have been left to pick up the pieces. This tragedy lays at the feet of for-profit companies because by under-employing workers at low wages in order to maximize profit, care workers were forced to cobble together hours by working at multiple locations. As we now know, this patchwork system turned out to provide the ideal conditions for the spread of the virus. Take Action

  • Calling all Health Care Workers in Victoria! Laid Off Hotel Workers are fasting to protect 50,000 job and need your support. The Government had to shut down the tourism industry. Now, the tourism industry wants the Government to give them $680 million. But the Government hasn't given any worker a legal right to get their jobs back as businesses reopen.   • Our friends at Sanctuary Health protested the government’s decision to clawback MSP coverage, resulting in the government partially reversing their decision. However, many migrants still lost coverage on July 31st.

  • Out-of-Pocket Costs for Rural Residents When Traveling for Health Care. The Centre for Rural Health Research in collaboration with four rural community members including the Rural Health Network administered a survey for rural BC patients on their out-of-pocket costs when traveling outside of their home community for health care demonstrating the high financial and psychosocial costs.
