Hello friends,

A group of us have formed Friends of Canadian Musicians, to advocate for strong government support for performing musicians during the covid-19 pandemic. We have just submitted a petition to Parliament, which I hope you will read and sign. It is not long, but makes the basic case for support, so that our music eco-system can survive. The petition calls for the federal government to

1. Guarantee CERB funding or its equivalent for musicians and technical supporters until the summer of 2021;

2. Fund and extend the music ecosystem support models such as SoundON from British Colombia across the country; and

3. Create project funds that go directly to musicians for developing music content through virtual platforms.

Please distribute this message widely to musicians and fans of music (basically everyone!). It is crucial that the petition receive many signatories this month, as the federal government crafts its Throne Speech.

Here is the link for you to sign on: https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2818

Many thanks,

bill
