The World Wildlife Fund is hosting its annual wear-a-sweater day challenge on February 6th asking Canadians to lower the thermostat and support energy conservation. A team of UVic researchers including Andrew Rowe, Mechanical Engineering and Tom Pedersen, the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, are working on a solution to integrate energy sources in BC and Alberta by linking the electrical energy grid. The study will also examine electrical grid reliability, cost savings and, most significantly, reducing carbon emissions with a shift away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy. See more in the Times Colonist.
UVic has just launched an important project -- The UVic Difference: Positioning for Success -- to renew and sharpen UVic's reputation and messaging to reflect how our university and our world are changing. We also need shared, compelling answers to the questions "What makes UVic different?" and "Why choose our university?" for the students, faculty, staff, donors, partners and collaborators we hope to attract. As part of this project, UVic is conducting a short survey of UVic students, staff and faculty. Let’s make sure sustainability is stated as a strategic focus for future planning. Please click here to complete the survey.
