Tell Premier Horgan no new permits

Hi Paov,

This past fall, I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in northeast BC to document fracking operations. It’s hard to ignore this industry’s impact on the climate when you’re staring down a flare stack with an enormous plume of fire spewing from its tip.

If BC wants to fight climate change, we need to end fracking.

Write Now! Methane, the gas these companies are after, is an extremely potent greenhouse gas. It’s responsible for about a quarter of global warming. Leaks from wells, valves and fittings have driven a recent spike in the build-up of the gas in our atmosphere, fuelling climate chaos around the globe.

Global production of fracked gas needs to decline three per cent every year until 2030 to maintain a safe climate. But Premier Horgan wants to build liquified natural gas plants that would double the province’s output — and he’s willing to jeopardize his own CleanBC climate plan to do it. Not only that, his government is giving even more subsidies to fracking companies.

Write your MLA and demand they put the brakes on polluting fracking projects. Our provincial government should not be giving out permits for new wells during a climate emergency, and it definitely shouldn’t be subsidizing them. Write your letter today! Let’s make 2021 the year we turn the tide against this reckless industry and start building an economy northern communities can actually depend on.

For the climate,
