Write to keep LNG off the Fraser River

Hi Paov,

Gas companies have a lot of stupid ideas. But boy, this one takes the cake.

Fortis wants to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant smack dab in the middle of Metro Vancouver. Will you write to your MLA to stop them?

Write my letter today! Tilbury LNG on the Fraser River would turn an existing storage tank into a fueling and export facility. It would require nearly 2,000 new fracking wells in northeastern British Columbia. And it could create 2.4 megatonnes of carbon pollution every year.

That’s about as much as the entire city of Vancouver. For all the great work our communities are doing to fight climate change, this one LNG project could undo it all. If the provincial government actually wants to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, it needs to stop approving giant new polluting projects with a lifespan of decades. It needs to say no to Tilbury LNG.

Not only is this project a disaster for the climate, but it’s also a massive risk to its neighbours in Delta and Richmond. That’s because an LNG spill could ignite a vapour cloud kilometres wide. Because of this risk, international guidelines warn against building LNG terminals near population centres, in narrow, inland waterways and busy areas with marine traffic. LNG on Tilbury Island is a triple threat.

Your MLA needs to hear from you. Tell them to shut this proposal down. Demand Premier John Horgan finally stand up to fracked gas companies and stop Tilbury LNG. WRITE NOW There is no way we’re going to let this project happen.
