New report shares leaders’ vision for the region
Hi Paov,
It seems like the only time we talk about northern British Columbia is when the government backs a controversial new megaproject like Site C dam or LNG Canada. That’s a problem.
Premier Horgan says he wants reconciliation and climate action but those causes have seen serious setbacks under his government, largely because of its conflicting priorities for the North. Our latest report, Voices and Vision of Northern British Columbia, shows a better way forward.

It’s clear the province’s approach to the North isn’t working. Northerners want more say in the decisions that affect them and they need support to succeed in a world with new challenges and realities. It’s time for a new strategy focused on community economic development, cultural revitalization, environmental management and social well-being.

Let’s stop fighting over ill-conceived industrial megaprojects in the North. We can have Indigenous sovereignty, a safe climate and thriving northern communities. These issues are complex, but we can move forward by working together. That’s exactly what we intend to do.
For the climate,
