[bc-can] Canada: Lets elect courageous clima

Dear WE-CAN Members and supporters,
This morning David Suzuki emailed me in climate distress, writing:
"Seems all environmental groups are desperately trying to raise the climate issue. Just wondered what you are doing with your WE-CAN Network. They must represent quite a chunk of the population and we have to marshall that pressure. The bloody media act as if climate is just an environmental issue that comes after Afghanistan, Covid and daycare. Any ideas? David.”
Leadnow seems to have the answer to David’s question
So I’m breaking our rule of “just one email per week” to share Leadnow's urgent call-out for people to make phone-calls in key ridings. The CBC Poll-Tracker shows the Conservatives not inching but romping into the lead. https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/elections/poll-tracker/canada/
Here’s Kate Hodgson’s Leadnow email:

I’m blown away. Last week, the Leadnow community made 31,984 calls into key ridings — to reach key voters who could tilt the scales to elect bold champions this election.

It’s an inspiring number, but the polls are tightening and the election outcome is looking increasingly uncertain. [1] If we’re going to elect the courageous leaders we deserve in this crucial election, we need to ramp up our campaign now — and we need your help!

We’ve done the math. We need to make 32,837 calls this week to have impact in key ridings across the country. Together we can reach thousands of key voters in winnable ridings, and convince them to show up to vote for candidates who will tackle climate and inequality side by side.

But for our plan to work, we need everyone reading this email to pitch in two hours to make calls this week. Will you sign up for an online calling party now? We’ll provide you with all the training you need — all from the comfort of your home!

Three weeks from today, voters will head to the polls. After months of scorching heat and wildfires, and a pandemic where billionaires increased their wealth by $78 billion, we know climate and inequality are on the ballot. [2-5]

If enough of us sign up to make calls , we’ll be able to make at least 90,000 calls before election day. You could elect leaders who will acknowledge the scale of the problems we are facing, and respond with emergency-level action.

Don’t worry if you haven’t made calls before — we’ll show you the ropes. First timers are welcome! You don’t even have to leave your couch! Sign up here.

With polls tightening, every single person who chips in their time (even two hours!) can make a massive difference. Every single call is crucial.

With determination,
Kate and Adriana, for at Leadnow

P.S. You can just show up, get trained and start calling! But if you’re interested in preparing ahead of time, you can check out the calling script here: https://act.leadnow.ca/calling/(Note: we update this document frequently so it may change).
