Thanks for everyone who came out last week to our open house and/or workshops on the renewal of the UVic Sustainability Action Plan for Campus Operations. Feedback and ideas from the campus community are welcome as we create a new plan to guide our work for the next 5 years and beyond.

Oliver M. Brandes from UVic’s POLIS Water Sustainability Project is interviewed about a study he helped design, called Freshwater Insights: A Survey of British Columbian Attitudes on Fresh Water, in which 90% of respondents believe water is the most precious resource. See the Province.

Ben Parfitt from UVic’s POLIS Project co-wrote an opinion piece on the potential... detrimental impacts of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in BC on our water supply. See the Province.

UVic alumnus Blair Kennedy (BCOM ’98) was named to Business in Vancouver’s Forty Under 40 business starts for 2013/14 for his work with his company Encorp Pacific, responsible for the logistics of collecting and processing more than a billion recyclable bottles and cans each year as well as 100,000 tonnes of recycled electronics, including those from UVic. Being part of an organization that helps protect the environment also bridges with other personal goals he wants to achieve, according to Business in Vancouver.

If you are a cyclist concerned about the lack of safe cycling infrastructure in Victoria consider signing this petition to urge the city to make world-class updates to its outdated cycling master plan. Also see story in the VicNews.

During a news conference last April, in the wake of a foiled plot to blow up a Via Rail Train, Prime Minister Harper said, "This is not the time to commit sociology." Why not?
