Let’s end our biggest fossil fuel subsidy

Currently 14 out of 15 of the largest fracking companies pay less to BC in royalties than they receive in drilling credits.

Royalties are the price fracking companies pay the Province of British Columbia for access to gas. Right now you can take action to end this outrageous situation in favour of a system where fossil fuel companies pay their fair share. Rates should reflect the costs society is already paying for the damages these companies cause, especially to Indigenous Peoples. Submit comments ASAP
Any modern royalty system in an era of climate emergency needs to gradually wind down fossil fuel production — not enable it! Your participation is important because the BC government is considering ongoing subsidies for fracking. If enough of us write into the public consultation, we could make this effort a win for water and lands in Treaty 8 territory and the global climate.
Will you write in before Friday at 4 pm and demand a flat rate for fracking royalties, with no nefarious “capital cost recovery”? r0.
