This past month, West Coast has been reaching out to caring supporters like you to help us secure an overarching provincial law that makes biodiversity and ecosystem health a priority in British Columbia.
Cumulative impacts of human activities like logging, mining, and oil and gas development have taken a serious toll on biodiversity, which is why BC is in desperate need of a holistic legislative approach to protect nature – one that applies to all sectors. This new legislation must be co-developed with Indigenous peoples, and could be a key to helping restore balance between humans and the natural world.
I am writing to you once again because of our commitment to make this law a reality. Done right, this game-changing approach can remedy gaps and remove legal barriers to biodiversity conservation across a range of existing BC laws – while respecting Indigenous law and authority, and upholding the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
This holiday season, will you consider making a generous gift to West Coast Environmental Law?
A donation of any size today can help us shape this law and support other vital projects at West Coast that are transforming the legal landscape.
Paov, you are someone who stays up to date on our work – so please don’t miss out on this opportunity to support the establishment of this new law. Take your support to the next level by making a gift to help me and other staff lawyers at West Coast make this important new legislation a priority for BC decision-makers.
In the spirit of giving this holiday season, please give a gift that can protect biodiversity for generations to come. Thank you for being someone we can depend on.
Sincerely,
Gavin Smith
Staff Lawyer at West Coast Environmental Law
P.S. Your gift today can also help us offer hard-hitting legal analysis to catalyze other powerful collaborative strategies for law reform, develop cutting-edge solutions to strengthen other environmental laws, support Indigenous peoples in revitalizing their own laws, and so much more! Please donate generously this holiday season.
We recognize that our readers are diverse and have unique experiences. Due to the impacts of systemic racism and colonialism, or a variety of other factors affecting financial well-being, some readers may not be able or inclined to make a monetary gift. We welcome your ongoing support and engagement with West Coast in whatever form you choose.
