Dear Paov,
I have great news! Mining company Imperial Metals is out of the Skagit Headwaters Donut Hole for good. Yesterday, the BC government announced it successfully negotiated the return of all mining claims.
This is a MASSIVE win and you’re to thank for what we’ve accomplished! Over the years you and others have sent 2,725 emails to the BC government urging them to take action for this cherished wilderness area. It’s thanks to this landslide of public opinion that the government was moved to action.
Can you believe it’s been nearly two decades since you and I first started working to get logging and mining out of the Skagit Headwaters Donut Hole? In 2004 a logging operation in spotted owl habitat by BC Timber Sales sparked a war in the woods that lasted two decades. We swore never, ever to give up on the Donut Hole. And we didn't.Now that the immediate threats from logging and mining have been eliminated, let's urge the BC government to work in partnership with the First Nations of the area to legislate permanent protection for all of the Skagit Headwaters in BC. Write now! The Donut Hole is finally free from logging and mining thanks to you. So take a moment to celebrate!
With just one more little push, we can protect this area for all time.
